Second large quake strikes Chile - A 7.6 earthquake rocks northern Chile, a day after an 8.2 tremor killed six people, and it forced the visiting president to evacuate.

Recent quakes probably not related - Recent earthquakes in Chile, Panama and Southern California have people wondering - are they related? Expert say it's unlikely.

California earthquakes unlikely to be signs of the Big One - Two strong earthquakes have rattled Southern California in the past 10 days. Is that a sign a bigger one is coming? It's possible but unlikely.

TSUNAMI / FREAK WAVES / ABNORMAL TIDES -

California ports watch for unusual water patterns after Chilean quake. Small tsunami waves and other UNUSUAL 'WATER MOVEMENTS' arrived on the California coast Wednesday following the 8.2 earthquake that struck Chile's northern coast.

TROPICAL STORMS -
Current tropical storms - maps and details.

* In the Western Pacific -
- Tropical depression 05w is located approximately 861 nm east-southeastward of Koror.
-----
Tropical Cyclone's Hellen's lively remnants - Powerful Tropical Cyclone Hellen rapidly weakened after hitting northwestern Madagascar but Hellen's remnants have recently started to show signs of life. The TRMM satellite flew over Hellen's remnants in the Mozambique Channel on April 2 at 01:43 UTC and saw some thunderstorms topped out near 9.9 miles high. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center expects the remnant low to move on a westward track toward Mozambique over the next couple of days. The system has a low chance of regenerating in the next 24 hours.

Philippines - Potential cyclone from east may enter PAR Sunday. A potential cyclone, a low-pressure area, approaching from the east could enter the Philippine area of responsibility this weekend.

SEVERE RAIN STORMS, FLOODING, LANDSLIDES -

Oso mudslide - Washington state disaster site yields more dead. The death toll from a mudslide that hit the north-western US state of Washington has risen to 29 people, with 20 others still missing.
It has been 11 days since the town of Oso, north of Seattle, was struck by a 177ft (54m) wall of mud and debris. Recovery efforts continue in the area, which is covered by mud 80ft deep in some places. The landslide destroyed about 30 houses, temporarily damming a river and covering a major road. Little sign of the community in Stillaguamish Valley remains in the disaster zone, which is strewn with piles of downed trees and the twisted remains of vehicles.
"The mountain didn't slide like an avalanche that starts at the top and slides down. It actually blew out at the bottom. And all of that energy, because of the weight on top of it, blew across the river and brought all that water and material in it." The search operation has been hampered by days of heavy rain.
Mild weather on Tuesday was allowing crews to spend less time controlling the water and more time searching. But higher temperatures could create new problems as melting snow from the Cascade Mountains floods the mud pile. "There's a lot of snow left on the mountains surrounding the valley. We're going to start facing runoff issues from that in the very near future." The US Army Corps of Engineers was working on a plan to dig a river channel to keep water running away from the disaster site. The Governor has estimated the cost of damage and cleanup will be at least $42 million.
