TROPICAL STORMS -
Cyclone YASI was 446 nmi ENE of Cairns, Australia. Yasi has been upgraded to a Category 5 storm as thousands were ordered from homes in Queensland. North Queenslanders at risk of tidal storm surges have very limited time to evacuate as Cyclone Yasi nears the coast. Yasi could take at least 24 hours to weaken after it makes landfall. "There's still potential for it to become stronger ... as a strong category five we could see wind gusts in excess of 320 kilometres an hour, which is just horrific...We are as ready as we can be but it is frightening, I can tell you."
