**If a tree falls in the forest
and your wife doesn't hear it,
is it still your fault anyways?**
[Yes, it is! LOL!]

VOLCANOES -

Thousands of Indonesians flee fierce volcano eruption on Sulawesi - Mount Lokon spewed ash, sand and rocks thousands of metres into the air. Mount Lokon started erupting at around 2230 local time (1530 GMT) on Thursday. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
The last month has seen a significant rise in volcanic activity in the area, and the alert status was raised to the highest level just days ago. A 3.5-km (two mile) evacuation zone was established last weekend, within which around 28,000 people live, of whom 4,400 have been moved so far. "There is no mass panic because the community has already been warned of the situation and we are continuing to evacuate people." Among the dozens of volcanoes in Indonesia, Mount Lokon is one of the most active. It last erupted in 1991.

Typhoon causing hazardous seas - Residents heading into Guam and Northern Marianas waters were warned that they should exercise extreme caution this weekend as a high surf advisory, small craft advisory and hazardous seas advisory are in effect through Sunday. As Typhoon Ma-On continues to intensify north of Agrihan, a tropical storm warning is in effect for the Northern Mariana Islands.
Guam is not under a storm watch or warning, but the Coast Guard yesterday issued a warning to boaters and beachgoers, in light of the National Weather Service warnings. The Weather Service has issued several high surf warnings and small craft advisories for west-facing reefs along Guam, Saipan, Tinian and Rota. Through Sunday, surf is predicted to build to 10 to 12 feet along west-facing reefs in Rota, Tinian and Saipan. Hazardous seas will also affect Guam with surf predicted to build 8 to 10 feet along west-facing reefs. A hazardous seas advisory is also in effect, with seas anticipated to rise above 10 feet and winds are expected to remain in excess of 20 knots, creating waves along affected reefs higher than normal, making it exceptionally dangerous for small vessels and swimmers. "The National Weather Service recommends mariners operating small vessels should avoid navigating in these conditions." The island has lost five people in Guam's waters this year due to powerful waves.

VIETNAM - Low pressure forecast to cause heavy rains. A low-pressure system is forecast to develop into a tropical storm causing strong winds in the Gulf of Tonkin tomorrow.

SEVERE RAIN STORMS, FLOODING, LANDSLIDES -

UTAH - A 15-year-old girl died after heavy rains caused a huge sink hole to open on a Utah highway, swallowing one vehicle and causing her father's SUV to careen off the road. The crash late Wednesday night happened when the road collapsed in front of them, leaving a patch of asphalt on the edge of the hole that the vehicle hit, causing the fatal accident. At about the same time, a second car actually went into the 40-foot-wide, 30-foot-deep hole. The driver of that vehicle was hurt, but the extent of her injuries was not immediately clear. The accidents near Tabiona, about 90 miles east of Salt Lake City, came about 15 minutes after a heavy storm began at about 11:30 p.m., quickly overflowing a clogged culvert and washing out the two-lane state road. All three people were wearing seat belts. The highway will remain closed while repairs are made and traffic is being diverted. (photo)

Six people were killed in landslides in Nepal early today. Three members of a family were killed in Rukum district in the mid-western mountains when their house was buried by a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall. Ten members of a separate family went missing overnight when the house they slept in was buried by a mudslide, also in Rukum district. Police told local media that a search was on for the missing but there was little hope of finding them alive. In a separate incident, three members of a family were killed in Nuwakot district in central Nepal when their house was buried in landslide triggered by incessant rainfall. Hundreds of people die each year and thousands are displaced in landslides and floods caused by monsoon rains in the Himalayan nation.
