No update on Wednesday this week.

**Nature is cyclical;
there is virtually no waste in the natural world
that does not provide food for other living systems.
We need to create an economy that duplicates nature's cycle
where the waste from one process is the food for another.**

4.7 quake shakes inland region of Southern California - The quake was "a little tricky to analyze" because of a small quake that preceded the larger event, said a USGS seismologist. That threw off some of the instruments.

Japan - More than 9500 aftershocks logged since mega-quake two years ago. Quakes registering upper and lower 6 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 were observed twice each, while those in the upper and lower 5 range were logged on 12 and 44 times, respectively. Those rating 4 were recorded on 226 occasions. 300,000 people remain displaced by the triple disaster - a massive earthquake, tsunami and nuclear meltdown.

VOLCANOES -

Ecuador's Tungurahua volcano erupts - Tungurahua volcano has continued erupting, spewing lava for a second day.

Russia - KVERT reports several partial collapses have occurred at the growing lava dome at Sheveluch volcano (Kamchatka Peninsula) the past few days. The collapses have generated pyroclastic flows and ash plumes which have risen to 20,000 feet .

New Zealand - Ruapehu eruption likelihood decreases. Ruapehu could still erupt without warning but the likelihood of it doing so has decreased, says GNS Science. Temperatures underneath the crater lake have been falling during the past month, but they were still considered to be high.

TROPICAL STORMS -
In the Indian Ocean -
Tropical Cyclone Sandra was located approximately 265 nm west-northwest of Noumea, New Caledonia; weakening.

Solomon Islands and New Caledonia under alert for cyclone Sandra - The Solomon metservice says cyclone Sandra is a category four cyclone, and early yesterday morning was about 300 nautical miles southeast of Rennell Island. It says people can expect gale force winds to develop.

Cyclone Tim seen forming off northern Queensland - Australia's eighth cyclone of the season is likely to form in the Gulf of Carpentaria on Wednesday, forecasters say. A strong low pressure system is near Nhulunbuy, in the western gulf, and moving east.
Tim would be the third Queensland cyclone of the season. And that might not be all, with a remote chance of a fourth looming behind it.

HEAVY SNOW / EXTREME COLD -

United Kingdom - Hundreds of drivers have been left stranded after snow brought some roads in Sussex to a standstill. Tailbacks of up to 30 miles were reported on the A23 between Crawley and Brighton, with some motorists stuck for up to eight hours. Police said snow and ice had caused hazardous conditions and officers were trying to help gritting lorries through to treat roads. Other roads were also affected including the A26, A27 and A29.
Police said Red Cross volunteers were also checking on the welfare of stranded motorists. "The roads haven't been gritted and I don't know why. There had been warnings about snow." "What makes me really angry is where are the gritters? I'm furious. "However, a spokesman for the Highways Agency said roads had been treated. Meanwhile there were also problem on roads in Kent with the M20 closed coastbound from junction 13. Several buses were stuck across the city.
The Met Office had warned that up to 10cm (4in) of snow could have accumulated in southern parts of Sussex and Kent by Tuesday morning, and has issued an amber "be prepared" warning. There are yellow "be aware" snow warnings in place for the south-east corner of England and north-eastern Scotland, as well as yellow warnings of ice covering Wales and most of England and Scotland. The bitterly cold, north-easterly wind would persist in much of England and Wales into Tuesday, but ease across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

EXTREME HEAT & DROUGHT / CLIMATE CHANGE -

New Zealand Drought May Curb Government Revenues - New Zealand, the world's biggest dairy exporter, first declared a drought this year on Feb. 27 in Northland province, at the top of the North Island. Whole-milk powder prices surged the most in two-and-a-half years on March 6.

Vietnam Coffee Harvest May Drop 30% on Drought - The coffee harvest in Vietnam, the biggest grower of robusta beans used by Nestle SA in instant drinks, may decline for second year because of drought in the main growing regions.

Colorado should be prepared for another drought year - The latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows large swaths of Colorado suffering from extreme heat and drought conditions, leading experts to liken last year's drought, one of the worst in Colorado's history since the 1890s, to the Dust Bowl years.

Penguins in decline as climate change decimates food supply - Global climate change means portions of the Antarctic have less ice, which in turn means there's less food to eat. Life here depends on the shrimp-like krill, and krill live under the floating ice where they shelter like bees in a hive.

Effect of Arctic climate change can't be predicted, experts say - Newly published research says climate change has already altered seasons in the Arctic to make them more like southern regions. And while tundra plant communities are already becoming shrubbier, scientists behind the paper say there's no way to predict future effects

Tropical forests unexpectedly resilient to climate change - New analysis refutes previous work that predicted the catastrophic loss of the Amazon rainforest as one of the more startling potential outcomes of climate change.
